Midland Fire Dept. Receives $84K in Grants

September 26, 2017 – The City of Midland Fire Department (MFD) has been awarded a series of grants from several local organizations totaling more than $84,000 to be used for equipment purchases and upgrades to technical rescue operations.

The Charles J. Strosacker Foundation has provided a $165,000 grant to be used for improvements to the Law Enforcement Center and new equipment purchases for the Midland Fire Department. The fire department will use $65,000 of this grant to purchase new thermal imaging cameras for each front line rescue or fire suppression vehicle as well as replace outdated bottles for self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and air lift bags for technical rescue operations.

In addition to the Strosacker Foundation grant, the Midland Area Community Foundation and Fisher Companies have awarded MFD with matching grants of $9,663.50. The combined $19,327 will be used to purchase a technical rescue trench shoring system to be used by the Midland County Tech Rescue and Regional Tech Rescue teams based at MFD.

The gifts were formally accepted by Midland City Council at the September 25 meeting. A public hearing on the gifts will be held at the City Council meeting on Monday, October 9 for residents who are interested in more information.

The City of Midland and MFD thanks the Charles J. Strosacker Foundation, the Midland Area Community Foundation, and Fisher Companies for their generosity and continued commitment to the well-being of the Midland community.
