Spring 2007 Summary
Custom applications for public safety were made available for the Fire and Police Departments. These applications map out all reported incident data in a mapping interface and provide public safety officials with a tool to visualize the locations of all incidents throughout the City of Midland.
The image to the right is an example of a custom application for the Fire Department. When planning the location of a new fire station, the Fire Department can analyze the time that it takes to drive from each fire station (red stars) to each neighborhood using GIS. The Fire Department can respond quicker to areas represented by the green shading whereas it may take longer to respond to areas represented by the red shading.
These applications increase productivity and allow public safety officials to conduct planning and analysis in ways never before imagined. This information provides a powerful tool to help save lives and plan ahead for possible future threats to our community.
