Heavy Item & Brush Disposal

Heavy Items and Brush are collected from residential properties once per month. Items can be placed at the curb on the Saturday preceding a resident's scheduled collection Monday. Items should be at the curb by 7:30 a.m. on the Monday of your area's scheduled collection week. Items Collected
  • Appliances (remove covers and doors). Appliances are also collected weekly on a call-in basis, 989-837-6900
  • Asphalt, concrete, brick or stone & other masonry rubble
  • Boxes of any size, including moving boxes
  • Demolition, remodeling and building materials (for established Midland residences only)
  • Furniture, mattresses & carpeting (less than 8 feet in length)
  • Logs, cut branches, tree trimmings & brush (Less than 8 feet in length. Place parallel to the curb. Leave 1 foot of space between piles. For established Midland residences only. No service for land clearing.)
  • Scrap metal
  • Tires (maximum of four per year per address)
  • Whole boxes & corrugated cardboard larger than 3 ft. x 3 ft. (boxes can be recycled only if they fit inside the recycle bin)

  • Car batteries
  • Chemicals
  • Dead animals
  • Excess of 4 tires a year
  • Explosives and live ammunition
  • Household hazardous materials
  • Loose soil & sod
  • Old cars & car bodies
  • Wet / liquid paint
How to Prepare Your Items for Collection
  • All items, including brush piles must be less than 8 feet in length; leave 1 foot of space between piles.
  • Avoid placing items near poles, trees, hydrants, mailboxes, wires and other obstacles
  • Containers put out for Heavy Item collection will be disposed of along with their contents
  • Flatten boxes and corrugated cardboard
  • Place items on the outlawn between the curb and sidewalk. Do not place items in the street
  • Put household items and brush into clearly separated piles
  • Remove covers and doors from all appliances
Disposing of Cardboard & Boxes
  • Boxes are not to be used as containers for refuse or debris
  • Whole boxes and large cardboard are collected monthly with your heavy item collection only
  • Cardboard and boxes of any size can be dropped off at the Midland Recyclers; call 989-631-1668 for info

Christmas Tree Collection 
Christmas trees are collected and recycled during the first two weeks of January on your weekly refuse collection day. After this collection period, trees can be placed at the curb for monthly heavy item and brush collection. To prepare trees for collection - remove stands, ornaments, tinsel, garland, and plastic tree bags.
